Deep-tech Startup Hycosys Raise $1 million in Seed Round

Bengaluru-based deep-tech engineering startup Hycosys has raised over $1 million (approximately Rs 9 crore) in a seed funding round led by MountTech Growth Fund – Kavachh.

Founded in 2024 by Dr Tapish Agarwal and Ugandhar Reddy, Hycosys is developing micro gas turbine systems that offer a clean alternative to diesel generators used for industrial backup and captive power.

The conventional diesel generator (genset) is prone to battery failure, fuel system contamination, coolant leaks leading to overheating, air filter blockages, excessive noise, and high emissions.

Hycosys’s micro gas turbine systems of 50 – 200 kW output can run on hydrogen, natural gas, or blended fuels. These turbines can provide backup power, offering a sustainable alternative to diesel gensets.

Deep-tech startup Hycosys’ design includes a hydrogen-optimised combustor and a 3D-printed heat recovery unit, which they claim is 30% lighter than conventional systems.

Hycosys solution can provide a reliable backup power during grid outages, ensuring operational continuity for homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

Beyond backup power, Hycosys’ solution can be used in small microgrids for distributed energy and as range extenders for heavy commercial vehicles.

In December 2024, the company secured $88400 in pre-seed funding from PointOne Capital. The fresh capital will be used to expand their engineering team and access advanced testing facilities.

Both founders have extensive industry experience. Dr Tapish Agarwal (CEO) is an IIT Kanpur alumnus with a PhD from CentraleSupélec, France, and over 10 years of experience in gas turbine research, and Ugandhar Reddy (CTO) is a BITS-Pilani graduate with over 15 years of experience, including significant roles at GE Aviation.
