Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer River Mobility has raised $120 million in a Series C round of funding consisting of equity and venture debt.
The fresh round of funding is led by Elev8 Venture Partners and Claypond Capital, with participation from existing and other investors.
Founded in 2021 by Aravind Mani and Vipin George, River Mobility launched its two-wheeler model, River Indie, in 2023, focusing on utility mobility.
Rather than competing directly with mainstream commuter scooters, it positions its electric scooters for everyday commuting, carrying loads, and small-business or livelihood use.
The scooter’s distinctive features include side mounts and accessory compatibility for carrying boxes, panniers and other work-related equipment.
River Indie comes with a 4 kWh battery and a range of 160 km; the storage capacity is about 55 litres, including a 12-litre glovebox and a 43-litre under-seat compartment.
The large storage space makes it particularly relevant to delivery workers, self-employed users and urban riders who need more utility than a conventional scooter offers.
River Mobility has attracted several international and strategic investors, including Yamaha Motor, Al-Futtaim Group, Mitsui & Co., Maniv Mobility, Trucks Venture Capital and Lowercarbon Capital.
Yamaha Motor invested in River in 2024 after evaluating its design, R&D, manufacturing processes and supplier base. This is significant because it gives River access to the engineering credibility, distribution potential and manufacturing experience of a major global two-wheeler company.
The company plans to use the money to expand its current Karnataka facility, establish a new greenfield plant and develop additional electric scooters.
River Mobility operated more than 75 stores and aims to expand to over 350 outlets by March 2028. It intends to launch a second premium utility scooter by mid-2027, with a third model also under development.
Its existing production capacity was reported at around 10,000 scooters per month, while the planned new plant could eventually produce up to 80,000 scooters per month.
In a crowded electric two-wheeler space with Ather, Ola Electric, TVS and Bajaj, River Mobility has differentiated itself through a rugged, practical product and a potentially valuable Yamaha partnership.
The success of electric two-wheeler manufacturer River Mobility will depend on whether it can maintain product quality and after-sales service.
