India and the United Kingdom have reinforced their joint commitments to climate action and environmental sustainability during the official visit of UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to India on 8–9 October 2025.
In India, Keir Starmer met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and both leaders reaffirmed their vision for cleaner energy, innovative climate finance, and impactful bilateral projects, laying a foundation for global cooperation on climate change.
The two countries have launched the ‘India-UK Climate Finance Initiative’ to scale up green finance and unlock new opportunities for sustainable growth. A notable aspect is the joint investment in the Climate Tech Start-up Fund, which aims to accelerate innovations at the intersection of climate technology and artificial intelligence.
This fund, established under an MoU with the State Bank of India, is designed to empower climate-focused entrepreneurs and support frontier solutions such as green energy and decarbonization.

Both governments announced the establishment of an Offshore Wind Taskforce, expanding collaboration on renewable energy deployment. The UK-India Infrastructure Financing Bridge (UKIIFB), a collaboration between NITI Aayog and the City of London Corporation, remains a flagship project supporting sustainable infrastructure growth. The focus sectors include clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and climate technology.
Critical Minerals and Circular Economy
The India–UK Critical Minerals Processing and Downstream Collaboration Guild, along with the Critical Minerals Supply Chain Observatory, exemplifies shared ambitions for strengthening supply chain resilience. These partnerships leverage advanced technologies for resource efficiency, supporting green growth and responsible sourcing essential for clean energy expansion.
Joint Centres for Innovation
The leaders welcomed the India–UK Connectivity and Innovation Centre, focusing on next-generation networks, cyber security, and green technology applications.
The India–UK Joint Centre for AI is highlighted as a vehicle to develop responsible and trustworthy technologies in the fields of climate, fintech, health, and bioengineering.
International and Commonwealth Action
India and the UK have reiterated their commitment to multilateral environmental action, including cooperation on climate change, sustainable development, and youth engagement within the Commonwealth framework.
