Indian Government Funds Electrowaves Electronics for Indigenous EV Charger Commercialisation

The Indian government’s Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology, has sanctioned financial support to Electrowaves Electronics for the commercialisation of indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured EV chargers, advancing the national resolve for clean mobility and self-reliance.

The initiative strengthens the government’s push towards self-reliance by reducing dependency on imported charging solutions and accelerating India’s transition to electric transportation.

Himachal Pradesh-based Electrowaves Electronics has developed in-house AC and DC fast chargers along with key components such as power modules, insulation monitoring devices and communication controllers.

The DC fast chargers operate in the 30–240 kW range, and the technology stack includes:

  • 15 kW & 30 kW Power Converter Modules (100–1000 VDC output, 100A max current)
  • PLC Communication Controller (fully compliant with DIN SPEC 70121 and partially with ISO 15118)
  • OCPP Communication Controller (fully compliant with OCPP 1.6J and OCPP 2.0.1)
  • Universal DC Charge Controller with complete HMI design.
The company has also engineered AC Type-2 chargers suitable for both domestic and public charging use, broadening the availability of high-efficiency, India-made EV charging systems.

Founded in 1999 for the manufacture of stand-alone UPS systems and Domestic Inverters at Parwanoo in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The company has, over time, moved into manufacturing power converters for the railway industry, electrical panels, railway fans, and LED lights for rail applications.

TDB’s support to Electrowaves Electronics is expected to boost the domestic electric mobility ecosystem by scaling production of technologically competitive charging infrastructure, enhancing accessibility, and supporting India’s goal of net-zero emissions. It also strengthens supply chains within the strategic energy and clean-tech sectors, helping India’s global competitiveness in the EV landscape.

Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, stated that, “The company’s efforts in developing and commercialising indigenous EV chargers reflect India’s commitment to innovation-driven self-reliance. Such projects enhance energy security, reinforce sustainable industrial growth, and accelerate the nation’s transition toward clean mobility.

Promoters of Electrowaves Electronics expressed gratitude for the support and noted that the assistance will help them expand manufacturing capability and contribute meaningfully to India’s clean energy future.

This initiative reaffirms TDB’s continued commitment to enabling indigenous technology development, promoting Make in India, and building strong domestic capabilities in next-generation transportation systems.
