India’s Prime Minister Stresses on Tree Plantation in Mann Ki Baat

In the 121st Episode of ‘Mann ki Baat’, India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, appreciated the efforts of Gujarat’s Ahmedabad city to plant 7 million (70 lakh) trees. He mentioned that these trees have increased the green area in Ahmedabad, helping the city fight against global warming.

Further, he also recognised that the number of water bodies has increased here due to the River Front on the Sabarmati River and the reconstruction of some lakes like Kankaria Lake. 

The trees provide relief to people from the heat under their shade and cool the environment. The trees planted in Ahmedabad are becoming the reason for bringing myriad shades of happiness there.

The massive tree plantation was taken up last year in Ahmedabad as part of development projects launched by India’s Home Minister and Member of Parliament from the city, Amit Shah.

In August 2024, 45 projects costing Rs 1,003 crore were launched by the Minister, including two oxygen plants, waste collection vans, and a sewage treatment plant. 

The municipal corporation planned to plant 3 million (30 lakh) trees in 100 days, and citizens were encouraged to do so in their residential societies, nearby waste lands, and their children’s schools.

Prime Minister in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ address urged citizens to plant trees to maintain the health of the earth, to deal with the challenges of climate change, and to secure the future of children.

He reminded citizens about ‘Ek Ped – Maa Ke Naam’, launched on the 5th of June 2024, on ‘World Environment Day’. This campaign is in the name of the mother who gave birth to us and also for Mother Earth, who ensconces us in her lap.

During this one year, more than 140 crore trees have been planted in the name of the mother across the country. Observing this initiative, people outside the country have also planted trees in the name of their mother. 

In this month’s address, the Prime Minister also spoke about science, technology, space, disaster management, history, and the success stories of the aeroponics technique, among others.
