At the Republic Day Parade 2026, Kerala’s tableau showcased India’s first Water Metro in Kochi, while Tamil Nadu’s float showed the state’s emergence as the “EV Hub of India, highlighting India’s environmental initiatives.
The 77th Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi was themed “150 Years of Vande Mataram”. The ceremony was presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance.
A total of 30 tableaux from states and ministries were displayed, and, as it is becoming common in recent years, many of them highlighted green and sustainability-led initiatives.
Kerala Tableau
Kerala’s tableau prominently featured the Kochi Water Metro as a centrepiece of sustainable urban transport.
The float displayed a full-scale model of a Water Metro electric boat docked at an island terminal, with visuals showing it connecting 10 inhabited islands in Kochi’s backwaters.

Opened in April 2023, Kochi Water Metro has become the lifeline to people as it connects the coastal city to 10 island communities with the mainland.
People from diverse backgrounds, including the Haritha Karma Sena (Kerala’s green workforce for waste management), were shown boarding or waiting, emphasising inclusive and green mobility.
The tableau underscored India’s first fully electric, integrated water transport network with barrier-free access, linking to metro rail, feeder buses, and cycling paths.
The showcase positioned a water-based transportation model for low-emission travel in other coastal cities and towns with rivers.
Apart from the water metro, tableau celebrated digital literacy, symbolised by the brand ambassador, Sarasu, using a laptop and smartphone amid native agricultural produce like jackfruit, mango, coconut, and spices.
Tamil Nadu Tableau
Tamil Nadu’s tableau at the Republic Day Parade 2026 embodied the theme “Mantra of Prosperity: Self-Reliant India,” showcasing the state’s progress in green energy and renewable initiatives.
The tableau was centred on Tamil Nadu’s emergence as the “EV Hub of India,” emphasising electric vehicle manufacturing and sustainable mobility.
The front showcased a large-scale model of an advanced electric car, with robotic arms assembling batteries to highlight automation in electric vehicle production. An EV charging station was depicted to symbolise commitment to clean energy infrastructure and eco-friendly transport.
A split tree motif—one natural half, one circuit-patterned—illustrated the balance between ecology, industry, and technological progress in green initiatives.
Ayush Ministry Tableau
The tableau presented by the Ministry of Ayush at the Republic Day Parade 2026 offered a comprehensive narrative of India’s traditional systems of medicine integrated with modern technology.
The tableau reflected India’s civilisational approach to health and well-being, highlighting how traditional knowledge systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy continue to play a vital role in strengthening preventive, promotive and community-based healthcare.
The front section of the tableau depicted the foundational roots of Ayush through a symbolic representation of India’s traditional health knowledge in harmony with nature.
Sculptural elements and medicinal plant motifs illustrated the close relationship between human health and the natural ecosystem, emphasising sustainability and holistic living as core principles of Ayush.
Community participation and public engagement formed an integral part of the tableau, with visuals depicting Yoga practices, commonly used Ayush medicines and meditative postures symbolising harmony of body, mind and spirit.
These elements reflected Ayush as a participatory and inclusive healthcare movement rooted in daily life.
Tribute to India’s Rivers and River Guardians
In a unique initiative this year, enclosures for the Republic Day Parade 2026 were uniquely named after Indian rivers to move away from traditional “VVIP” labels and promote inclusivity.
Furthermore, more than 150 special guests, comprising water warriors, river conservationists, and Ganga Praharis, attended the event.
Republic Day Celebrations
The Republic Day Parade is India’s premier ceremonial event, held annually on January 26 at Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath) in New Delhi. It commemorates the day the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950, officially transforming the nation into a sovereign republic.
The parade features marching contingents from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary forces, alongside displays of advanced weaponry. Vibrant floats and tableaux from various states and ministries showcase regional heritage, art, and achievement.
At this year’s parade, most of the cultural displays focused on the theme of Vande Mataram, including a cultural dance performance by approximately 2,500 artists celebrating the national song’s 150th anniversary.
