Climate-Tech startup FluxGen secures Rs 28 crore Funding

Bengaluru-based climate-tech startup FluxGen has secured Rs 28 crores pre-series A round led by IAN Alpha Fund and others.

Founded by Ganesh Shankar in 2019, FluxGen provides an end-to-end water management solution for industries, businesses, smart cities, and commercial facilities.

The company’s proprietary solution leverages AI, IoT and even satellite imagery to help businesses perform real-time water monitoring, supporting parameters like quality, pressure, etc. The water management platform offers analytics, alerts and recommendations that make water management efficient.

The Bengaluru startup also offers solutions to facilitate rainwater harvesting and waste water management to improve the efficiency of sewage and effluent treatment plants.

Water is essential for almost all business operations, including production processes, cooling systems, cleaning, etc. However, it is increasingly becoming a significant operational cost for many companies, especially in manufacturing, food & beverages, chemicals, textiles, and hospitality. This is even more significant in regions where water is scarce and expensive.

As the water demand continues to rise due to population growth, urbanisation, and industrialisation, the supply of freshwater sources remains limited.

In India, several major cities, including metropolitan hubs like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai, face the prospect of depleting their groundwater. A report by World Economic Forum identifies India amongst the countries where ‘water supply crises rank as the top immediate or short-term risks’.

The report further mentions that the water shortages are driven by factors such as ‘human overexploitation, mismanagement of critical natural resources, climate change, and insufficient infrastructure’.

Moreover, with growing awareness about climate change and resource depletion, businesses are expected to reduce their environmental footprint. Sustainable water management reflects a company’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Governments are increasingly implementing stricter regulations around water usage and conservation.

Therefore, as companies strive to become water positive by reducing water intake, replenishing groundwater, and improving sanitation services, FluxGen can play a critical role.

FluxGen has worked with clients like Tata Steel, Aditya Birla, Mircosoft, ITC, ACC Limited, Ashok Leyland, Indian Oil, Ikea, Saint Gobin, Bosch, etc. The startup has also partnered with Cisco in smart cities projects.

The water management solution startup plans to use the funding to expand into new markets in India, the Middle East and Africa.
