Renewable Energy tableau at Republic Day Parade

At India’s 76th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) showcased a captivating tableau exhibiting India’s evolving energy landscape.

The tableau theme was ‘Clean Energy for a Global Future’, highlighting India’s groundbreaking strides in renewable energy while celebrating the nation’s deep cultural heritage.

Renewable energy has been a focus area for the Indian government to provide affordable and clean energy to millions of households in India as well as boosting domestic manufacturing in the renewable sector.

At the CoP26 Summit in Glasgow in November 2021, India committed to achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030.

The front part of the tableau showcased solar energy initiatives like the ambitious PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the world’s largest residential rooftop solar initiative. Through this initiative, the country aims to supply solar power to ten million households by March 2027.

Launched by the Indian Prime Minister in February 2024, PM Suryaghar’s initiative aims to provide electricity to households by facilitating the installation of rooftop solar panels through subsidies of up to 40 per cent, making renewable energy more affordable and accessible.

The renewable energy tableau also highlighted India’s advancements in green hydrogen. In 2022, the Indian government launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission to make the country a leading producer and supplier of Green Hydrogen worldwide.

The four green-coloured wind turbines on the tableau marked India’s position as the 4th-largest installer of non-fossil fuel energy capacity worldwide.

These efforts are not only advancing India’s green economy but are also poised to generate millions of green jobs by 2030. Artists dressed in costumes resembling solar panels walked alongside the tableau to add to the creativity.

Eight hundred special guests, comprising beneficiaries of PM Suryaghar, PM Kusum, and renewable energy technicians were invited by MNRE to witness this unique portrayal of India’s path to a sustainable and self-reliant future.
