Lohia Park in Lucknow Offers a Refreshing Escape

Leisurely walkers, fitness seekers, yoga souls, and playful children weave through their motions, while three towering Baobab trees stand nearby, watching over them with grace.

Nestled in the heart of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, these Baobab trees (Adansonia digitata) stand amidst a vibrant, serene park, enveloped in lush greenery.

The park, developed by Lucknow Development Authority in 2007, is named after the renowned socialist Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and is located in the Vipin Khand area of Gomti Nagar in Lucknow.

Spanning an impressive 76 acres, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Park ranks among Lucknow’s largest green spaces, boasting expansive lawns, vibrant flowers, serene water features, and a rich tapestry of flora and fauna.

As you step through one of the park’s four gates, a towering statue of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia stands, accompanied by a board detailing his life and invaluable contributions.

A winding pathway leads you through lush green gardens, adorned with plants and flowers. Along the way, serene patches of grass invite you to sit and embrace the tranquility of nature.

Apart from three Baobabs in a small section, some individual and rare trees like rudraksha (Elaeocarpus ganitrus) and Washingtonia are also found. The park is home to nearly 15,000 trees, representing over 50 species, including neem, gulmohar, champa, tamarind, mango, arjuna, and more.

The Rose Garden, a special section of the park, displays numerous varieties of roses in full bloom, spreading their sweet fragrance throughout the park. There is also a small medicinal garden, multiple floral patches, and artificial water bodies, attracting nature lovers and a host of birds and butterflies.

Lohia Park features walking and synthetic jogging tracks, along with an open-air gym, encouraging visitors to stay active amidst its tranquil surroundings. The nearly 3-kilometer stretch is enhanced with music systems, keeping fitness enthusiasts motivated as they push themselves to run a little farther.

Running in nature elevates the experience and deepens its meaning, as every step connects you to the world around you.

Expansive lawns offer ample space for picnics, yoga sessions, and outdoor sports, making it a beloved spot for families and fitness enthusiasts alike. For the little ones, a dedicated play area with swings, slides, and other fun equipment promises hours of joyful exploration.

The park is also embellished with architectural features, including idols depicting 12 different poses of sun salutation (surya namaskar), a real train engine, animal and bird figures, and benches made with car seats.

The park is equipped with a rainwater harvesting system and features an amphitheater, hosting cultural events, exhibitions, and concerts to celebrate and promote the city’s vibrant cultural heritage.

Overall, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Park in Lucknow offers a refreshing escape to the locals and provides a great spot to relax, unwind, and appreciate the serene nature and its beauty.
