Bengaluru-based Hasiru Dala Innovations (HDI), a solid waste management company, has raised Rs 6 crore in pre-series A equity funding from Rainmatter Fintech Investments and Next Bharat Ventures IFSC.
Nalini Shekar and Shekar Prabhakar started Hasiru Dala in 2012 as a waste management company. Three years later, they formed Hasiru Dala Innovations, focusing on bifurcation of waste management operations for bulk waste generators.
Since its inception, HDI has been instrumental in driving sustainable waste management solutions, empowering wastepickers and providing livelihood opportunities.
Waste pickers in India play a crucial role in managing the country’s waste. They collect, segregate, and recycle materials from municipal waste, contributing to environmental sustainability.
However, their work often goes unrecognized, and they face numerous challenges such as poor working conditions, lack of proper facilities, and social stigma.
Hasiru Dala Innovations provides professional waste management for bulk waste generators like residential and corporate premises, enabling waste pickers to generate predictable income. The company also provide services at music concerts, marathons, weddings, and corporate events.
After the waste is collected and segregated, the wet waste is processed into biogas or compost, the dry waste is sent for recycling, and the rest is incinerated or landfilled as per government regulations.
Bengaluru-based company is working with corporate clients such as HSBC, Wipro, Titan, and Texas Instruments.
The new funding will help Hasiru Dala Innovations scale the firm’s plastics circularity business to increase recycling capacity and operational efficiency.
