Avatar Movie Review

  • Movie Name: Avatar
  • Director: James Cameroon
  • Run Time: 2h 42m
  • Year of Release: 2009
  • Our Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 stars)

When normal humans stop thinking, James Cameroon starts to weave his story. The director of Titanic, Terminator, and Alien conceived this movie 15 years before its release in 2009. Avatar is the most vivid creation of a fantasy world ever seen in the history of moving pictures and is also considered the most prominent movie made on environmental protection.

The film is about an indigenous land called Pandora – a fascinating world of flora & fauna, gigantic trees, glowing plants, flying horses, panther dogs, and hammerhead dinosaurs. Living among the forests is a local tribe, the Na’vi – with lean frame body, 10-ft.-tall, blue colored, and yellow eyes, they look like humans but are not.

An American corporation wants to mine a precious rock called unobtainium found in the resource-rich land of Pandora. They develop an infiltration plan to capture it–merging human and Na’vi DNA into fully functioning avatars.

As the story unfolds, one of the genetically engineered Avtars, the male protagonist played by Sam Worthington, falls in love with one of the Na’vi girls, played by Zoe Saldaña, who is also the daughter of the clan’s spiritual leader.

What ensued was a battle between the tribe who wanted to protect their land versus humans. The tribe is further joined by Pandoran wildlife creatures and even Sam Worthington. The battle scenes are fierce, where fancy gizmos of humans clash with the ingenious methods of the Na’vi.

The imaginary world created by James Cameroon is full of surprises and extraordinary creativity. The best part of Avatar is its central theme of honoring Mother Earth. The movie is considered one of the top movies on environmental protection. Made for US$ 240 million, the film deservingly grossed over US$ 3 billion in box office collection.

Avatar won 3 Academy Awards for Art Direction, Cinematography, and Visual Effects and was nominated for nine Oscars. The movie is available on Disney platforms.
