Carbon Capture Projects in India

Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) stands out for its unique ability to tackle emissions that other technologies, like wind or solar, simply can’t reach.

It can play a vital role in decarbonization efforts as it captures emissions from industrial sources and power plants, preventing them from entering the atmosphere.

Multiple CCUS technologies, such as Direct Air Capture (DAC), are available to capture emissions at scale. Captured is either utilised in products (e.g., fuels, chemicals, enhanced oil recovery) or stored permanently in deep underground geological formations.

In India, the government is employing CCUS technology to meet net-zero goals and to capture emissions from “hard-to-abate” sectors like refineries, cement, steel, and chemicals, where alternative low-carbon solutions are limited.

Some of the projects are already operational, while a few others are under construction.
