SAIL’s entry into Garbage Bins

SAIL, India’s stainless steel manufacturer, has introduced IoT enabled garbage bins

In one of the previous posts, we mentioned about a couple of companies – Iotracx & SenRa, which have introduced Smart Bins in India. Now we have the country’s state-owned steel manufacturing company, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) foray into smart garbage bin. As you would expect, these garbage containers will be made of stainless steel.

The bins will have the sensors to relay information to the waste collection authorities when the garbage is full. The sensors will be deployed on the pit cover and will transmit signals when it detects that the container is nearing its capacity. The steel smart bins will be placed in underground cement (RCC) pits. There will be separate containers for recyclable and non-recyclable wastes. The IoT enabled system will effectively manage garbage disposal and reduce human intervention considerably.

Delhi, which is the biggest contributor in waste generation, will get the first system from SAIL. The system is being developed along with Delhi’s Municipal Corporation. After Delhi, SAIL plans to take this solution to other cities and municipalities across the country.
